Dakota and I have been busy chicas hence why there are no blog post in the past month! Here are some pictures of our past month to get you caught up on all the cuteness!!

BIRTH STORY OF DAKOTA RAE

I have read many birth stories and a lot of them start of by saying that their birth didn't go as planned. From reading all those birth stories, David and I decided to not expect anything. Not for it to be super short or super long, not to decide whether to use the birthing tub till the time of labor, or what birth positions we would be using. With this all in mind I do think we had the most perfect birth! Everything went so smoothly and we weren't disappointed with anything!

My contractions began on Saturday, January 15th a few hours after I lost my mucus plug. They weren't really any different then my braxton hicks, just more frequent and more noticeable. To past time went and got a mani and pedi with Shannon and then after that we went and did some last minute shopping. While at Kohls my contractions became more intense and hurt more also. I tried to push on and keep shopping, but I guess my face expressions were pretty bad because Shannon decided that it was time for this soon-to-be mama to get home. Once we got back to my house we started to count my contractions and they were about ten minutes apart every two minutes. This last for a few hours and once everyone left the house I decided to do some cleaning. Yes I know you are wondering why I would be cleaning while having contractions, but I'm a clean freak so knowing that I wouldn't be able to clean the house for a bit after Dakota was born made me push through each contraction and get the house in perfect condition! This act I believe made my labor really start rolling along because a hour later I was in a new type of pain and the contractions were coming harder. The pain is so hard to describe, so the best thing I can compare it to is super bad cramps or kidnet stones! The only difference is I knew with contraction was one step closer to meeting our baby girl! At some points when David was counting my contractions he kept on mentioning that maybe I wasn't in labor but passing a kidney stone again. This was something I didn't want to hear because really who wants to give birth to a kidney stone days prior to giving birth to a baby! Luckily he was wrong and on Sunday the 16th around 6ish we were on our way to the Birth House!

Once arriving to the Birth House Carolee filled up the birthing tub for me and I hopped in. I was hoping that this would relieve some of the pressure and pain but it did nothing for me. When I was at home coping through each contraction I spent most of my time on the toilet! During birth classes we learned that a lot of women find comfort sitting on the toilet because it opens up your pelvis and boy was the teacher right! The toilet was were I spent 90% of my time! I was still in a lot of pain, but the toilet was my savior! After being at the Birth House for about a hour I felt like I was ready to push! Carolee didn't think I was probably dilated enough because when I got there I was only about 5-6 cm dilated but I had this undesirable need to push so she decided to check to see how far along I had come. As I was walking back to the bed I could feel a contraction coming on, so I bent over with my arms on the bed and whoosh my water broke! Have you ever seen someones water break in a movie? Well that is exactly how it was! It sounded like a waterfall and looked like one too! As soon as my water broke though I felt a lot of pressure disappear and my pain went way down, probably 80% less! Once Carolee checked my cervix she found out that I was right on my feeling, and was fully dilated and ready to push! She could actually feel Dakota's head!

Pushing was actually not as hard as I thought it would be. To be honest when I was pushing my contractions didn't hurt at all!! I was so excited to meet Dakota that I could care less about anything else! As her head began to show, they held up a mirror for me to see Dakota's head. This really got me motivated and I began to have some really long, hard, and productive pushes! I pushed for about 1.5  hours and then she was here! As soon as she was put on my chest all pain was gone and I was in paradise! Our baby girl was here and all I could do was look at her in amazement and I couldn't believe that we really did it! Dakota Rae was born at 10:20 pm and weighed 8 pounds 4 ounces and was 21 inches long!!

David was so proud of me and how well I handled the pain and to be honest I felt pretty high up there too! Not at one point in my labor did I think I made the wrong decision about having a natural, med free birth. It was for sure hard (they do call it labor for a reason!) but with the right support team I honestly think any women can do it! I wouldn't of had it any other way and our future children will all come into the world the same.

After getting all stitched up (yep I tore a little bit, but didn't feel it at all), doing some routine procedures, and getting mommy and baby all washed up we were on our way home! Seriously three hours after giving birth to Dakota we were on our way home! A lot of people were shocked how quickly we were at home, but being able to be in our own, cozy environment was all I wanted!

I'm so thankful for how our birth went! Now almost two months later, there hasn't been a day that has gone by that I don't think about that day/night! It's something that is so indescribable! I had the most amazing birth team and I'm so thankful Dakota was able to brought into this world peacefully and drug free!
